Irfan Pathan
[edit]Is Irfan Pathan a native Gujarati speaker? I've seen a video of him on youtube where he's being interviewed on a Gujarati language channel, and he speaks in Hini/Urdu throughout. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.124.247.56 (talk) 12:40, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
The Gujarati Muslim community refers to the Muslims of Gujarat. As such, a significant number are Urdu speakers. He may be a Miyan bhai.
Merger talk
[edit]Please note Note the original merge template was put by Peter Chastain (talk · contribs) on 24 January 2012 as per following links [1] and [2] but he did not start any forum on talk page.
I agree with the proposal to merge Surti Muslims into Gujarati Muslims article. As Gujrati Muslims are not confined to Surat. Further, there is no separate caste by name of Surti Muslims see [3], so it better that Surti Muslims page be redirected to this page and referenced content merged - Jethwarp (talk) 14:20, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- It has been almost 2 years since I placed that tag, and now I don't remember why. Probably, I was confused by the lead paragraph in Surti Muslims: "Surti Muslims, who are commonly referred to as "Surtis", are Gujarati Muslims." I would prefer something more like the lead in Mutwa: "The Mutwa are a Muslim community found in the state of Gujarat in India and a province of Sindh in Pakistan. They are one of a number of communities...". Assuming that everything in Surti Muslims is specific to Surtis, I would recommend against merging. Both articles are long enough, and I would hate to see all the articles about individual communities merged. As to your point that Surtis are geographically dispersed, isn't that also true of the others? That said, I would defer to those of you who are more familiar with the topic. Peter Chastain (talk) 11:37, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
It maybe better to name this subtitle under communities of Gujarat as there are mixed communities, both based on a geographical basis & ethnicity wise.
Pakistan connection
[edit]Today, the group is largely associated with the muslims who born in Gujarat, or heavily associated(registered as gujarati). You think there's the need of Pakistan in infobox, or at talk page? Even though it's not connected with pakistan anymore. Bladesmulti (talk) 04:43, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
I think that diaspora Gujarati Muslims should be linked, as with other peripatetic communities e.g. Chinese. The list already includes diaspora members. The omission of Pakistan would be a political move, & cuts off a vast array of important context related information.

Diverse Origins - DNA Testing
[edit]I refer to the heading that was deleted. First of all please accept my apologies for not following editing guidelines.
The reason for this heading was as follows:
- To investigate and bring to light the migration patterns of the people that make up a significant portion of Gujarat state's population. - I help people from this community understand their genetic origins.
Here is a disclaimer:
- I don't make any money from this project. - I run this project at FamilyTreeDNA's website. While this website offers commercial DNA tests I am not affiliated or a promoter. - FamilyTreeDNA has a free group project area where people with certain DNA objectives can run their online projects and have discussions with participants. - Being an administrator of a group project does not lead to any financial gain.
I would like the administrator of this wikipedia page to re-instate the deleted paragraph please. Please also advise if there are further edits I can make to conform with wikipedia policies. Yaswat (talk) 06:00, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
